Discovery Flight
Experience flight training and talk through the best next step.
Kilroy Flight Academy
Discovery flights, Part 61 flight instruction, and aircraft rental conversations for students and families in Lexington and the surrounding region.
Built for real students
Kilroy Flight Academy helps new pilots understand the path before they commit to a full training program. Start with a conversation, meet the team, ask what the aircraft and instructor schedule looks like, and learn what training could look like for your goals.
We keep the public promise simple: practical Part 61 flight instruction, straightforward expectations, and no pressure to choose a certificate path before you understand the work.
Your first flight
A discovery flight is a low-pressure introduction to aviation. You will meet an instructor, see the aircraft, talk through your goals, and experience what a first lesson can feel like.
Aircraft, instructor, weather, and scheduling availability should be confirmed before visiting or booking.
Training paths
Kilroy can help students and families compare practical training paths without implying guaranteed outcomes, fixed timelines, or FAA Part 141 approval.
Training at Blue Grass Airport also gives students routine exposure to a towered, controlled-field environment. Ground, tower, clearances, sequencing, and ATC communication become part of normal lessons, helping radio work feel familiar as students build confidence for cross-country flying and busier airports.

Aircraft and rental
Kilroy’s Bristell Light Sport platform gives students a modern, efficient way to train without giving up serious cockpit technology. Its light-sport operating profile can help reduce hourly operating costs compared with larger legacy training aircraft, while cutting-edge Garmin avionics give students early exposure to glass-panel navigation, situational awareness, and disciplined cockpit workflows. The result is a cost-conscious training airplane that still feels current, capable, and confidence-building.
Kilroy’s aircraft availability can change with maintenance, weather, and scheduling, so the best first step is a quick call before you plan around a specific date or aircraft.
Locations
Blue Grass Airport gives Kilroy Flight Academy students the benefit of learning at a controlled field with an operating tower. That setting helps students practice clear radio calls, ground movement, runway instructions, and working with Air Traffic Control in a real airport environment.
